Breath of Fire IV (BoF IV) is the fourth installment in Capcom's beloved JRPG series, originally released for the PlayStation in 2000. It is renowned for its beautiful 2D sprite artwork layered over 3D backgrounds, its poignant narrative, and its unique dual protagonist system following both Ryu, the silent hero with dragon lineage, and Fou-Lu, the mysterious first emperor.

The story begins when the winged princess Nina searches for her missing sister Elina near the ruins of a massive battleship. Her quest leads her to accidentally awaken Ryu, a young man who is much more than he appears. Simultaneously, across the warring continent, the ancient immortal Fou-Lu is resurrected and begins his journey to reclaim his throne. The game masterfully interweaves these two separate adventures, forcing the player to experience the conflict from the perspectives of both the hero and the supposed villain, delving deep into themes of fate, divinity, and the endless cycle of conflict between the two great empires.
